Over View :
FireWire 800 is the next generation of FireWire technology. It supports
the IEEE-1394b High Performance Serial Bus standard. The FireWire 800
implementation of the IEEE-1394b standard supports transfer speeds up to
800 Mb/s and device distances can now be up to 100 meters through the use
of special cables. FireWire 800 high-speed serial I/O technology is
particularly great for use with multimedia peripherals such as digital
video (DV) camcorders and tape decks.
It
supports all other FireWire peripherals such as disk drives, ultra
high-resolution scanners, printers and digital still cameras.
The
FireWire 800 products function at the maximum IEEE-1394b rated speed of
800 megabits/second (100megabytes/sec). The FireWire 800 products are
fully backward compatible with S100, S200 and S400 rated 1394 devices. It
allows up to 63 devices to be connected in a chain through its standard
6-pin and 9-pin ports. It can be used with third party video editing
software to capture, edit and export full size, full motion DV video at
720 by 480 pixels at 30 frames per second. FireWire 800 can also be used
in a workgroup network environment at close to 1000BASE-T speeds.
The IEEE1394 multimedia connection (also
known as Fire Wire by Apple Computer, and iLink
by Sony) features hot swapping, high-speed performance, peer to peer
communication and daisy chained which can accept up to 63 devices
connected simultaneously.
